The wet dew on the grass began to shiver as Gabriel walked in the field. The fog was thick and the sun was setting. He found a soft patch of grass that was not yet wet by the evening dew. Gabriel ruffled his feathers and lied down, curling his tail around him. He held his head high, to be sure no one else was around. He didn't trust others around him.
He yawned, his fangs glistening in the moonlight, his green eyes glowed yellow. He crossed his front legs, lied his head down, and slowly closed his eyes and fell asleep.
In the mist, a howl of a coyote could be heard and soon, the crickets joined in on the chorus. An owl occasionally cut in on the song, but soon stopped after he screetched and caught his mouse and started to feast. It went on for hours, but then, a rumble was heard and everything grew silent. Not even the wind made a sound.
The ground vibrated with each step. Gabriel was awoken by this vibration. He quickly jumped up to attention. His upper body swiftly lifted off of the ground. He looked around him. The mist was extremely thick, but he could see a faint movement, a blur. Gabriel knew it had to be an intruder. He lifted his whole body off the ground and took one step. The blur stopped. Gabriel paused, waiting for the blur to continue it's course. Once it continued, Gabriel lifted his body off the ground with his strong wings and glided toward the blur with intentions of confronting this intruder.
